Duggan Brothers Contractors officially handed over the new 100 bed ward block at Peamount Healthcare’s facility in August 2019. Work on the site in Newcastle, Co. Dublin began in December 2017. The service provided by the new facility is split equally between rehabilitation and elderly care residents. In this new wing, a special emphasis will be placed on dementia care. The €24 million development was designed by Scott Tallon Walker Architects. The design team took an empathetic approach due to the unique needs of the patients and residents. The building is arranged over two floors in two interlocking squares, with private courtyards.
Peamount Healthcare is an independent voluntary organisation, with a long history dating back to 1912. The facility first opened as a Tuberculosis sanitorium, but in the 1960s their focus changed to residential care for patients with intellectual disabilities. Peamount have since expanded their services to include treatment of a range of age related conditions and neurological disabilities. With a growing ageing population, organisations like Peamount are therefore providing a much needed lifeline to those in need of care.
The building is clad in Swisspearl Carat in Sahara 7002 by Excel Roofing, using the concealed fixing method. Carat fibre cement panels are integrally coloured with a transparent lightly pigmented acrylic top finish, and are available in 27 standard colours. The Carat range has a unique natural look and delicate vein texture. As a result the building exterior will maintain a timeless beauty.
